Last week Sudan was appalled by the horrific mass death of over 70 of street children between the ages of 13-25 in the Sudanese capital Khartoum. The head of Khartoum state’s police department, Major General Mohammed Ahmed, claimed on June 23 that all the deaths were caused by the consumption of methanol and other toxic substances. Most of the bodies were found in Omdurman and Khartoum. The police stated a second statement that they put their hands on the gangs that was supplying these toxic substances and has arrested six suspects. Sudanese experts on drugs expressed their surprise on how the suspects were able to obtain such lethal substance which is limited in distribution to certain specialized and professional categories.

روع السودان الأسبوع الماضي بأحداث الموت الجماعي المفزع لأكثر من 70 من أطفال الشوارع الذين تتراوح أعمارهم بين 13 – 25 في العاصمة السودانية الخرطوم. مدير دائرة الجنايات بشرطة ولاية الخرطوم، اللواء محمد أحمد علي، ادعى في يونيو 23، أن كل الوفيات نتجت بسبب من استهلاك كحول الميثانول وبعض المواد السامة الأخرى. عثر على معظم الجثث في أمدرمان و الخرطوم. و  ذكرت الشرطة في تصريح ثاني أنهم وضعوا أيديهم على العصابات التي كانت تزود هذه المواد السامة و اعتقلت ستة من المشتبه بهم. و أعرب خبراء سوادنيون في علوم المختبرات عن دهشتهم حول الكيفية التي تمكن المشتبه بهم من الحصول على مثل تلك المادة القاتلة التي يقتصر توزيعها على فئات معينة مهنية و متخصصة.

SHRN is gravely concerned about the way Sudanese authorities are harassing and prosecuting journalists in Sudan in an attempt to silence them and stop the exposure of human rights violations by the security organs. The recent trials and prosecutions initiated against a number of prominent journalists and civil rights activists in Khartoum aimed at dissuading the media from covering crimes committed by security forces as well as sending messages to survival of sexual violence that not only they, but also those who may seek to support them may be victimized by the Sudanese authorities.

According to SHRN a number of journalists and civil rights activists have received court summons due to complaints brought by the security forces. They were charged with defamation on the ground of their demands to an investigation of alleged three plain clothes security men rape case of a female activist Safia Is’hag.

Adil Ibrahim Karrar has been subjected to torture. Adil is asthmatic, as sever disc pain as a result of extended hours of interrogation and standing up right; he has been kept a hanger with bad ventilation facility. His family wrote to the director of security, General Mohammed Atta but received no reply. In unjustified circumstances, his wife and two sons, Ibrahim (18 years) and Amro (13 years) been interrogated in the security offices in Khartoum North on Wednesday, April 27, 2011. (more…)

تلقت الشبكة السودانية لحقوق الإنسان تقاريراً عن إعتداءات متكررة من قبل عناصر الأمن السوداني على المتظاهرين السلميين. ففي يوم ٢١ مارس ٢٠١١ تعرض العشرات من الطلاب والشباب للضرب المبرح، وأقتيد بعض الشباب من الجنسين إلى أماكن إعتقال سرية. (more…)
